Once a signed agreement is in place, we initiate a comprehensive marketing strategy designed to maximise exposure and attract serious buyers. We have our own in-house naval architect and surveyor who will begin by performing a pre-sale survey, or we use one of the trusted partners in our network.

By leveraging our global marketing reach and professional presentation, we enhance your yacht’s marketability and streamline the sales process for a successful outcome.

By choosing our yacht brokerage service, you ensure a smooth, professional and stress-free transaction, allowing you to focus on the excitement of selling your yacht with complete peace of mind.

Why should you choose Yacht-Match to mediate your yacht?

The sale of a yacht is a multi-stage process that requires expertise, attention to detail and professional guidance. It divides into two stages, with two key phases each.

Pre-Sales Inventory & Survey

Pre-Sales Survey. We have our own in-house naval architect and surveyor who will begin by performing a pre-sale survey, or we use one of the trusted partners in our network. This will generate a survey report that creates a trust and set your yacht listings apart from other similar listings online.

Inventory & Brokers comment: Our objective is to provide a standalone, in-depth sales brochure that not only presents the yacht attractively but also offers essential insights for potential buyers, including a detailed history of the yacht and its build background, and a complete equipment inventory specifying replacement dates, running hours and recent service records.

Active Listing & Brokerage Support

Marketing & Offer Agreement. This stage involves listing and promoting the yacht to potential buyers, culminating in a mutually agreed offer.

Transaction Management & Legal Formalities. Once an offer is in place, both buyer and seller must navigate contracts, surveys, sea trials, negotiations and the often-complex paperwork relating to title, registration and VAT compliance.

Our Mediation and Yacht Brokerage Support provides buyers and sellers with confidence, ensuring every aspect of the transaction is managed by a qualified professional yacht broker operating under the strictest SweBoat and Norboat codes of practice.

Why should you use a yacht broker?

Title, VAT & compliance risk

Legal title, registration history, VAT status and CE or UKCA conformity all have to be established and evidenced before money changes hands. A buyer who cannot verify them walks away or discounts heavily.

Pricing is evidence, not hope

Advertised prices are not achieved prices, and a yacht listed optimistically can sit on the market long enough that the asking price itself becomes the problem.

The time it actually takes

Marketing, qualifying enquiries, viewings, survey, negotiation, contracts and title transfer is sustained work over months, usually at exactly the times an owner would rather be sailing.

A yacht is often the most valuable asset an owner holds outside their home, and unlike a home, it moves. It can change country, berth and jurisdiction within a single season, and it may have been built, registered or previously sold almost anywhere. That is the case for professional mediation: the risk, the pricing and the administration handled by someone whose obligations are defined in writing and who is accountable under the HISWA and SweBoat codes of practice.

As your broker, Yacht-Match provides

The legal, financial and administrative side (approved contracts, designated client accounts, conveyancing insurance, legal title, registration and VAT, settlement of proceeds and marine finance) is set out in full under The services we offer & brokerage support above.

THE CASE FOR MEDIATION

Ten good reasons to use a yacht broker

Most owners who sell privately do eventually sell. The question is what it costs them along the way: in price, in months, and in weekends spent waiting at a pontoon for someone who never arrives.

Someone to stand between you and the criticism

A buyer’s job, as they see it, is to find every blemish and convert it into a discount. The person best placed to drop the price is you, which is exactly why sellers so often do. A broker takes that conversation off you.

A valuation you can defend

Advertised prices are not achieved prices. Some comparable yachts have sat unsold for years at hopeful numbers. We price from completed transactions and current demand.

Reach you do not have privately

Six offices across Europe, more than 60 brokers, over 40 marinas and bases, and 70-plus yachting professionals. A private advertisement reaches the people already looking in your harbour.

Enquiries filtered before they cost you a weekend

The opening question is almost always “what is your best price”, long before anyone has seen the yacht. Then come the viewings cancelled late, or simply not attended. We qualify buyers before your diary is involved.

Negotiation where both sides can speak freely

Buyers say things to a broker they would never say to an owner, and that candour is useful: it tells us what is actually blocking the sale. Sell privately and a buyer who walks away simply stops replying.

Paperwork that survives scrutiny

Incomplete documentation is one of the most common reasons a sale collapses late. We establish the file early, trace what is missing and obtain duplicates before a buyer’s solicitor finds the gap.

VAT handled properly, not hopefully

VAT status materially affects both price and saleability, and there are active buyers for VAT-paid and non-VAT-paid yachts alike. What matters is that the position is correct and evidenced.

A survey that works in your favour

Our in-house pre-sale survey means findings are known to you first, not discovered by the buyer’s surveyor halfway through a negotiation. It removes the biggest source of late price chipping.

Buyers from more than one market

Registered companies in seven European countries, working across four continents. When one market slows, another rarely does at the same moment.

Obligations that are written down

Everything above is a claim until it is contractual. A written listing agreement on HISWA or SweBoat-approved terms, client funds in designated accounts, and conveyancing insurance.

READY WHEN YOU ARE

Let's talk about what your yacht is worth

A 30-minute discovery call, with no obligation. We will tell you honestly what we think your yacht will sell for, how long it should take, and what we would do to get you there.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Because the commission buys three things that are difficult to arrange privately: an asking price grounded in comparable transactions, exposure to buyers outside your own network, and a documented, insured process for handling contracts, client money and title transfer. Owners who sell privately often reduce the asking price by more than the commission would have cost, while carrying berthing and maintenance for the extra months it takes.

Both depend on condition, specification, location and how the yacht is priced at launch. We give you an evidence-based estimate at the valuation stage, drawn from comparable completed sales rather than advertised prices, together with a realistic time expectation. A correctly priced yacht presented with a survey report and full inventory consistently sells faster than an optimistically priced one.

[GAP] Commission structure and any fixed fees to be supplied by Yacht-Match. Not written here; commercial terms must not be invented.

[GAP] To be confirmed by Yacht-Match. The general principle is that the listing commission is payable by the seller under the listing agreement, but the exact position, including any buyer-side search mandate, needs your confirmation before publication.

We work on both sides of the market. If you are searching rather than selling, we can act on your behalf: defining the brief, screening candidates across our network and the wider market, arranging viewings and sea trials, and managing survey and contract in the same way we would for a listing.

[GAP] Wording to be confirmed with Yacht-Match before publication. As a general matter a broker mediates between buyer and seller and does not itself warrant the condition of the yacht (which is why an independent survey matters), but the precise liability and insurance wording is a legal question and should not be drafted here.

That depends on how you engage us. A sole listing agreement gives us exclusive mandate for its term; an open listing does not, and leaves you free to pursue your own buyers or list elsewhere. Both are legitimate; they simply carry different levels of marketing investment on our side. We will set out which applies before you sign anything.

Ten stages, from valuation and listing agreement through pre-sale survey, brochure production, marketing launch, viewings, offer and negotiation, agreement and deposit, the buyer’s survey and sea trial, and finally completion and settlement. Each stage is set out in full in the process section above.

Still have a question?

Ask it on a 30-minute discovery call. No obligation, and you will get a straight answer about what your yacht is worth and how long it should take to sell.
