Saona 47 vs. Nautitech 46 Open

CATAMARAN COMPARISON

In this article, we compare the revamped Nautitech 46 Open and the award winning Fountaine Pajot Saona 47 catamaran.

The 45-46'catamarans are since long the best selling multihulls in charter

The Saona 47 offers a roomy saloon with a generous area for the galley faced aft wards, with separated fridge cabinet, L-sofa and navigation station plus an organised main switchboard. A nice feature in the saloon is the overhead deck lights which provide ample light into the saloon and give the guests a nice view on the sails. Although the overall finish is above average, I don’t like the cluttered ceilings though out the boat.

Because of the fairly wide hulls the cabins offer a lot of space. The owners hull in the three cabin version is a small apartment with wide double bed in the stern, wide floors, a vanity or small office in the middle, many cabinets and the heads and walk-in shower in front.

semi fly-bridge vs cockpit steering

Fountaine Pajot Saona 47 Exterior

The Saona 47 can be recognised by the hulls with their convex deck lines, the well proportioned super structure with the to the stern ascending roof line which turns seamlessly into the cockpit roof and the unique Fountaine Pajot hull windows.

Three large outdoor spaces welcome the guests on board of the Saona 47 to enjoy the nature; two double sunbeds in front of the coach roof, a semi fly-bridge with L-bench and double sunbed on the roof and a fully covered cockpit with three different benches and large table. The wide decks have numerous flush deck hatches build, which make walking around the Saona very safe.

Nautitech 46 Open Exterior

Straight lines, considerable hull windows and the short superstructure characterise the Nautitech 46 design. As of this season the sail area has been enlarged by lowering the boom, it gives the Nautitech 46 open an extra sportive appearance. The helm stations in the sterns enables the coach roof to be lower than usual.

Because of the fact that the superstructure is short and place relatively in the back of the boat, the biggest area is reserved for the cockpit (the ‘open’ concept) with a transversal bench in the back, two sofas and a long dining table.

The two steering positions in the stern of the hulls offer a good view on the sails and enable an optimal communication with the rest of the crew in the cockpit.

Nautitech 46 Open Interior

Roseo Design has created an interior with a modern atmosphere. Cabinets are finished in dark wood, overall improved quality finish and, also here, clean lines. The saloon now offers a U-shaped galley faced to the cockpit, and a L-sofa in the front as well as the forward facing navigation station, which doubles as ideal and sheltered third steering position if equipped with a remote control form the autopilot.

The cabin in the hull benefit from the large hull windows, from each bed the view over water is exceptional. Although not so wide as the competition, the hulls offer comfortable cabins with enough storage space. The owner’s hull is equipped with a bathroom with double washbasins and shower in front. The heads and a vanity is positioned in the middle.
