Yacht-Match advised us on almost every aspect of the specification, talking through options in detail so we could figure out for ourselves what was right. What stood out to me was how we were helped to make an informed decision, not told ‘this is what to do.’ Making the choices is part of the experience and excitement of the purchase, but the sounding board of deeper knowledge is invaluable.
Most of the equipment budget was spent on electrical upgradex, so we could avoid needing a genorator. We don’t regret it. Yacht Match helped us have solar panels fitted to the top of the catamaran, a high-quality inverter, and a lithium battery bank that gives the boat more than enough power.
Part of the deal we made was that a skipper and first mate would join us for the first two weeks on board. That was a great decision. We learned a lot very fast, both about sailing, and all the systems on board. Having two professionals on board helps you build your confidence and understand that what you are trying to do is within your grasp.
Yacht-Match is a combination of an adviser, seller, and an all-important bridge to the manufacturer once you have taken delivery. A yacht is complicated by its nature (I’m a hydro energy engineer by trade) and you need an organisation on side that understands that inherent complexity.
