The new Nautitech 41 Type S has been in the works for some time now. But still there is a lot of mystery surrounding the new species, and we only know so much. But the first hulls are soon to be launched, and we will be able to discover this exciting new yacht for the first time.

For Nautitech Catamarans, the philosophy behind the new 41 Type S goes far beyond just launching another model. According to the shipyard, this is a yacht designed around a completely different vision of life at sea. A vision where every hull line, every material choice, and every square meter onboard is used to create a deeper sailing experience. The 41 Type S is not presented as an evolution alone, but as a manifesto of freedom. It’s a performance-oriented cruising catamaran built around the idea that the sea is not only meant to be crossed but fully lived and felt.

And from everything revealed so far, Nautitech seems serious about that ambition.

First presented during spring 2025, the new Nautitech 41 Type S at once attracted major attention. The model builds upon Nautitech’s successful Open range but introduces a lighter, more performance-driven, and more modular platform aimed at sailors who want genuine offshore capability without sacrificing comfort.

A Completely New Design Philosophy

The Nautitech 41 Type S is not a replacement for the earlier 40 Open: it’s a full redesign. Developed in collaboration with Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group, the boat follows a clear “less is more” philosophy. The focus is on reduced weight, increased efficiency, cleaner hydrodynamics, and improved sailing.

Some of the most noticeable design changes include:

• Long, narrow hulls refined for speed and efficiency.
• Reverse bows extending the waterline length.
• Aft-stepped mast integrated into the hardtop for centralized weight distribution.
• A glazed aft bulkhead creating a panoramic 360° view from the saloon.

The result is a more performance-oriented vessel than earlier Nautitech models. While still keeping parts of the brand’s signature Open concept.

Performance Is the Priority

Everything about the 41 Type S suggests that Nautitech wanted to build a true sailor’s catamaran.

At approximately 9.6 tons displacement, the boat is lightweight for its size. Combined with a generous sail plan of 119 m² upwind sail area, the power-to-weight ratio is expected to be among the strongest in its category.

The standard sail setup includes:

• Square-top mainsail.
• Large genoa.
• Performance-oriented rig geometry.
• Twin aft helms with direct sail visibility.

Unlike many modern cruising catamarans, the 41 Type S does not use daggerboards. Instead, Nautitech opted for fixed mini-keels and an optimized hull shape designed to minimize drag. The boat is expected to deliver excellent light-wind performance while staying easy to manage short-handed.

The SmartRoom: One of the Biggest Innovations

One of the most interesting concepts introduced on the 41 Type S is the new “SmartRoom.” Instead of a traditional forward cabin, owners can choose a utility space that can evolve over time depending on their needs.

The SmartRoom can function as:

• Storage room
• Workshop
• Technical room
• Office
• Walk-in wardrobe
• Future additional cabin via conversion kit

This modular thinking extends throughout the entire boat. Nautitech describes the concept as a “slider philosophy,” where layouts, sail plans, and onboard systems can evolve and adapt over time depending on how the boat is used. For long-distance sailors and liveaboards, this could become one of the defining features of the model.

Interior: Minimalist but Premium

Inside, the 41 Type S takes a different direction compared to many modern cruising catamarans focused on volume. Rather than maximizing interior space at all costs, Nautitech prioritized balance, lightness, and functionality.

Key interior highlights include:

• Huge panoramic glass surfaces
• Bright minimalist styling
• Open connection between cockpit and saloon
• Lightweight furniture
• Equal balance between indoor and outdoor living areas

The saloon’s fully glazed aft wall appears to be one of the biggest talking points so far, creating an open feeling onboard.

The standard layout currently includes:

• Full owner’s hull to port
• Two cabins to starboard
• 2–3 heads depending on configuration
• Optional SmartRoom instead of forward cabin

When Will We See the First Boats?

The first Nautitech 41 Type S is currently under construction at Nautitech’s shipyard in Rochefort, France.

According to current reports:

• First launch and sea trials are expected during summer 2026.
• Initial deliveries have already generated strong interest.
• Production capacity appears limited in the early phase.

Current pricing indications place the base configuration around €453,000 + VAT. Although final specifications and options will affect pricing significantly.

A New Direction for Nautitech?

In many ways, it feels like Nautitech is targeting sailors who may previously have looked toward brands like Outremer or Balance, while keeping the practical Open lifestyle that made Nautitech famous.

If the real-world sailing performance matches the ambitious design philosophy, the 41 Type S could become one of the most important launches in the cruising catamaran market over the next few years.
